Brendan Eich is CTO of the Mozilla Corp. and widely recognized for his enduring contributions to the Internet revolution. In 1995, Brendan invented JavaScript (ECMAScript), the Internet's most widely used programming language. He also co-founded the mozilla.org project in 1998, serving as chief architect.


Javascript is something which is used by browsers and computers for all sorts of applications.One such simple application of JavaScript is the “Print This Page” link on the top left of this page.

If you have to enable/disable them you would have to go to the browser settings to do so.

  • 1.On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and
    then click the Security tab.

  • 2. Click the Internet zone.
  • 3. If you do not have to customise your Internet security settings, click Default Level. Then do
    step 4 If you have to customise your Internet security settings, follow these steps:
  • a. Click Custom Level.
  • b. In the Security Settings – Internet Zone dialog box, click Enable for Active Scripting in the Scripting section.
  • 4. Click the Back button to return to the previous page, and then click the Refresh button to run scripts.

If you are using Firefox, its much simpler.

  • 1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  • 2. On the Content tab, click to select the Enable JavaScript check box.
  • 3. Click the Go back one page button to return to the previous page, and then click the Reload current page button to run scripts.

On the other hand, if you were asking about Java (NOT Javascript). They are totally different. The easiest way to enable and use Java is to go to :http://www.java.com/en/and download the lates JAVA jre from them (jre=java runtime environment). Java is not necessarily used by browsers only and can be used by Windows for different applications. It is useful to have it installed as many application do use it.

The procedure to enable javascript depends upon the browser that you are using. Here is the procedure for the most popular browsers:

Internet Explorer 6 or 7

  • 1.Click the Tools menu.
  • 2. Select Internet Options.
  • 3. Click the Security tab.
  • 4. Click the Custom Level button.
  • 5. Scroll down until you see the 'Scripting' section. Select the 'Enable' radio button for 'Active Scripting.'
  • 6. Click the OK button.
  • 7. Click the Yes button in the confirmation window.

Firefox 2 or 3

  • 1.Click the Tools menu.
  • 2. Select Options.
  • 3. Click the Contents tab.
  • 4. Select the 'Enable JavaScript' checkbox.
  • 5. Click the OK button.

Safari 2 or 3

  • 1.Click the Safari menu.
  • 2. Select Preferences.
  • 3. Click the Security tab.
  • 4. Select the 'Enable JavaScript' checkbox.

Upgrading your browser or installing new security software or security patches may affect your JavaScript settings.
